Ledeno Ezero Shelter, widely known as Everest '84, stands high below Musala Peak immediately beside Ledeno Ezero.
It is the final major refuge on the classic route toward the highest summit in Bulgaria and on the Balkan Peninsula.
Access
CLASSIC APPROACH: From the upper Yastrebets lift station continue toward Musala Hut.
FROM MUSALA HUT: Follow the marked route past the Musala Lakes toward Ledeno Ezero.
TIME: The section from Musala Hut normally takes approximately 1–1.5 hours.
TO MUSALA: The final steep climb from the shelter to Musala Peak normally takes approximately 30–45 minutes in snow-free conditions.
Important
Check whether the shelter is open and whether accommodation is available before relying on an overnight stay.
At approximately 2,740 m the weather can change extremely quickly even in summer.
With snow or ice, the final section toward Musala becomes winter high-mountain terrain and may require crampons, an ice axe and appropriate experience.
Do not rely on a permanent source of drinking water.
