About this place
Orlovo Gnezdo Shelter is located on the main Balkan ridge east of Beklemeto Pass and is an important point along the E3 Kom–Emine route.
It is a managed shelter with facilities and functions more like a small mountain hut than a basic emergency refuge.
The surrounding area offers panoramic views toward the main ridge, Botev Peak, the Vezhen massif and Steneto Reserve.
Access
From Beklemeto – approximately 1:30–2:00 h.
From Dermenka Hut – approximately 1:00–1:30 h.
The route follows the main ridge and forms part of the E3 Kom–Emine trail.
Important
Reliable water sources are not available along every section of the ridge – carry enough water.
The exposed ridge is highly vulnerable to strong winds, fog, thunderstorms and winter snowdrifts.
In winter conditions, travel times can increase significantly.
