About this place
Bunkera Shelter is the lowest of the main emergency shelters on the southern approach from the Kalofer and Panitsite area toward Botev Peak via Paradzhika.
It is an important intermediate point before entering the higher and more exposed parts of the route.
In 2022, it underwent major renovation together with Mihaylov and Marinka shelters.
Access
The shelter is reached from the Panitsite area along the route toward Paradzhika and Botev Peak.
Beyond the shelter, the route continues toward Mihaylov Shelter, Paradzhika, Marinka Shelter and Botev Peak.
Important
Use the shelter primarily as an emergency refuge rather than as a substitute for a planned mountain hut.
Firewood and other supplies are not guaranteed to be available.
In winter, conditions become significantly more serious higher along the route.
