Route

Description

Dobrila Hut is an important high-mountain base on the main ridge of the Central Balkan Mountains and a natural starting point for routes toward Ambaritsa, the Kupen peaks and Botev Peak.

The approach from Sopot gradually leaves the lower slopes and forest behind and reaches the open pastures below the main ridge. Using the chairlift makes the walking section considerably easier and more relaxed.

As elevation increases, the views across the southern slopes of the Balkan Mountains widen, and Dobrila Hut appears on a broad saddle between the higher peaks.

The route works well both as a hike in its own right and as the first stage of a longer ridge traverse.

Access

How to get there

From Sopot, head toward the lower station of the Sopot chairlift. When using the lift, the remaining walk to Dobrila Hut takes about 1:30 h. After leaving the lift, continue north to northwest following the yellow trail markings. The route passes through the Presechen Kamak area, where you should watch for the junction toward Nezabravka Hut. Continue north toward Dobrila Hut. Across the open section, follow the pole markings through the meadows and along the eastern slopes of Dobrila Peak. After the traverse, the trail reaches the saddle between Dobrila Peak and Levski Peak (Ambaritsa), where the hut is located. If the lift is not operating, Dobrila Hut can be reached on foot from Sopot in approximately 4 hours.
