Route
The hike from Partizanska Pesen Hut to Mazalat Hut is one of the most enjoyable classic routes in the central part of the Balkan Mountains.
Much of the trail passes through cool beech forest, while the open sections offer beautiful views toward the main ridge. The elevation gain is moderate and the route suits a relaxed full-day hike.
In the final part, the forest falls away and the Triglav massif comes into view — one of the most impressive sights along the route.
Mazalat Hut is beautifully positioned on an open ridge and makes an excellent destination, especially for hikers looking for a scenic route without technically difficult sections.
Access
Partizanska Pesen Hut can be reached directly by car on a paved road from Gabrovo. Park in the large parking area immediately in front of the hut and begin the hike from there. Follow the red E3 Kom–Emine markings. The initial section follows a broad forest road with several junctions, so watch the markings and GPX track carefully. The trail gradually gains elevation and reaches the Korita area, where there is a drinking-water fountain and a place to rest. At the junctions, remain on the red markings toward Mazalat Hut. The main route passes close to Korita before entering the forest again. Farther along, the trail passes through the Buhala Peak area and continues through a long forest section toward the road from Lagat and the eastern entrance area of Central Balkan National Park. From there, continue along the red markings for approximately another 20–30 minutes to Mazalat Hut. Total walking time is approximately 3:00–3:30 hours depending on pace and breaks.
