Route

Description

The hike from the Seven Rila Lakes to Ivan Vazov Hut is especially rewarding because it connects two very different sides of Rila.

The route begins in the famous lake cirque, with open views and many visitors. Once it reaches Razdela, the crowds gradually fall behind and the trail turns toward the broad, quieter valley of the Dupnishka Bistritsa.

Beyond the ridge, the scenery becomes gentler and more spacious, while Ivan Vazov Hut sits in a peaceful high-mountain setting far from roads.

The route is not technical, but it is long enough to feel like a true crossing between two distinct Rila landscapes.

Access

How to get there

From the upper lift station and the Rilski Ezera Hut area, take the marked summer hiking route uphill through the Seven Rila Lakes. Continue through the cirque toward Okoto and Salzata.

Beyond Salzata, head toward Razdela. This is the most important navigation point on the route because several directions toward different parts of Rila meet here.

At Razdela, choose the direction for Ivan Vazov Hut and follow the green marking. The path begins descending from the ridge toward the Dupnishka Bistritsa Valley.

After the steeper opening descent, the gradient gradually eases and the route enters the broad Pazardere area. Continue on the green marking to the hut.

⚠️ Do not turn toward Otovishki Peak, Zeleni Rid or Malyovitsa if you are following this route. In low cloud, confirm your direction at Razdela and keep checking the GPX track at later junctions.
