Route
Kamila Peak (2,621 m) lies in the rugged Malyovitsa section of Rila, close to BAK Shelter and the dramatic group of Orlovets, Zliya Zab and Lovnitsa. Its name comes from a distinctive profile that, from certain angles, resembles a resting camel.
The first part follows the Malyovitsa Valley, while higher up the route gradually leaves the busiest tourist area and enters a world of granite cirques, moraines and sharp ridges.
In clear weather, the summit opens views toward Malyovitsa, Orlovets, Zliya Zab, Lovnitsa, the Kupen peaks, the Cherni Iskar Valley, Plana and Vitosha.
The route is demanding because of the elevation gain and broken high-mountain terrain and is best suited to hikers with good fitness.
Access
The route starts from Malyovitsa Base on a wide and clear trail. Malyovitsa Hut is reached in about 50–70 minutes following blue marking.
After the hut, the real ascent begins. The trail passes First and Second Terrace, and this section takes about 1.5–2 hours on rockier terrain.
After the Second Terrace, you reach a key junction. ⚠️ For Kamila Peak, follow the blue marking and leave the main route.
After about 40–60 minutes, you reach Bak Shelter (Orlovets), which is an important landmark.
From there, continue toward the saddle between Kamila Peak and Lovnitsa Peak, and the final ascent takes another 30–45 minutes on rocky and less clearly marked terrain.
⚠️ Good navigation is required after leaving the main trail.
The return is usually along the same route back to Malyovitsa Base.
BGMountainGuide
Kamilata (“the Camel”) takes its name from its silhouette. Viewed from certain directions, the rocky massif resembles a two-humped camel — a shape that makes it one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Malyovitsa section of Rila.
