Route
The hike from Vihren Hut to Sinanitsa Hut is one of the most beautiful ways to move from the busy Banderitsa Valley into the quieter western part of Pirin.
The scenery changes several times along the way — from dwarf pine and lake cirques around Muratovo Lake to open rocky slopes and high mountain passes. Higher up, broad views open toward the interior of Pirin.
The finish in the Sinanitsa cirque is especially memorable. Sinanitsa Lake, the hut and the pale outline of Sinanitsa Peak form one of the most distinctive mountain scenes in this part of Pirin.
The route is fairly long and almost entirely high-mountain. In normal summer conditions, the main challenge is the sustained walking and elevation gain rather than technical passages.
Access
From Vihren Hut, follow the blue-and-yellow marking toward Muratovo Lake. The trail gains height over rocky ground at first, then enters the cirque and reaches the lake.
From Muratovo Lake, continue uphill on the blue-and-yellow marking toward Banderishka Porta. After a gentler section, the climb becomes more serious over moraines, rock and scree. Stay with the established turns of the trail.
At Banderishka Porta, check the signs. The yellow marking branches toward Spano Pole and Popina Laka, while the route to Sinanitsa Hut continues on the blue marking.
A high-mountain traverse then leads toward Sinanishka Porta. The trail is fully exposed, and in low cloud it is useful to check the GPX track as well.
From Sinanishka Porta, begin descending on the blue marking toward Sinanitsa Lake. The hut sits immediately above the lake and is reached after the final steeper descent.

An old Pirin legend, recorded in several versions, is associated with the area of Sinanitsa, Gergiytsa and Muratov Peak. In one version cited by Nikolay Dautov, Gergiytsa flees from Murat Bey and dies; from an amulet around her neck, he realizes that she is his sister and that Sinanitsa is the name of their mother. Other versions rearrange the names of the characters, so the story should be regarded as a folk legend rather than a historical fact.
Navigation
Vihren Hut (start) – follow the blue–yellow marking at the beginning.
Muratovo Lake – after the lake, the climb to Bunderishki Gate becomes steeper.
Bunderishki Gate (key point) – important junctions: yellow → Yane Sandanski Hut (not our route); blue → Sinanitsa (our route); right → Muratov Peak (separate option).
Sinanishka Gate (key point) – continue on the blue marking toward Sinanitsa Hut.
Sinanitsa Hut (finish).
💧 Water: reliable refills are available at Vihren Hut and Sinanitsa Hut. Do not rely on a permanent drinking-water source between the two huts.
