Route
The hike from Sinanitsa Hut to Spano Pole Shelter links two very different Pirin landscapes — the rocky Sinanitsa cirque and the broad grassy slopes of Spano Pole.
At the start, the pale silhouette of Sinanitsa dominates the skyline, while higher up the views gradually widen toward the interior of Pirin.
Beyond the high section, the terrain slowly softens and the rugged rock gives way to open meadows and gentler slopes.
The hike takes around 2:30–3 hours and crosses exposed high-mountain terrain, where wind and fog can quickly change the character of the route.
Access
From Sinanitsa Hut, follow the brown trail markings towards Sinanishka Porta and Spano Pole Shelter. The trail leaves the area of the hut and Sinanitsa Lake and gradually climbs through the Sinanitsa cirque.
Continue uphill along the established path through grassy and rocky terrain. As elevation increases, wide views open back towards Sinanitsa Hut, the lake and Sinanitsa Peak. The final section towards Sinanishka Porta becomes steeper and more rocky.
At Sinanishka Porta you reach the main high point of the route. There are trail signs and marker poles here. The pass is an important junction: the blue-marked trail leads towards Vihren Hut, while for Spano Pole Shelter you must remain on the brown-marked route.
Beyond the pass, begin the gradual descent towards Spano Pole. The trail crosses broad open high-mountain terrain with alternating grassy and rocky sections. Navigation is relatively straightforward in clear weather, but in fog the surrounding landmarks can disappear completely, so follow the brown paint and marker poles carefully.
Further down you reach an important junction where the brown Sinanitsa – Spano Pole route crosses the yellow-marked trail between Vihren Hut and Yane Sandanski Hut. Do not continue along the yellow markings. Follow the signs and the brown markings towards Spano Pole Shelter.
From the junction, continue through the gentler terrain of Spano Pole. The characteristic small shelter cabins gradually become visible ahead. A short descent leads towards the valley of the Malka Spanopolska River, after which an almost level trail reaches Spano Pole Shelter.

An old Pirin legend, recorded in several versions, is associated with the area of Sinanitsa, Gergiytsa and Muratov Peak. In one version cited by Nikolay Dautov, Gergiytsa flees from Murat Bey and dies; from an amulet around her neck, he realizes that she is his sister and that Sinanitsa is the name of their mother. Other versions rearrange the names of the characters, so the story should be regarded as a folk legend rather than a historical fact.
