Description

The hike from Bezbog Hut to Tevno Ezero brings together several of the most beautiful places in eastern Pirin — Bezbozhko Lake, Popovo Lake, the high mountain 'Gates' and the Belemeto cirque.

The first part is comparatively gentle and crosses broad lake country. Beyond Popovo Lake, the route gradually becomes higher, rockier and more exposed.

Kralevdvorska Porta forms the natural high threshold of the hike. Beyond it, the scenery changes completely as the rugged cirque around Tevno Ezero and its shelter comes into view between the high peaks.

The route is long but varied and very scenic; in good visibility it feels like a true crossing through the heart of Pirin.

Access

How to get there

Start from Bezbog Hut and pass along Bezbog Lake. At the beginning the trail is shared and follows green + yellow marking.

After about 10–15 minutes the steeper section (“Dushevadkata”) begins—climb steadily and calmly. Continue on the main path toward Popovo Lake.

You reach a junction where the yellow marking turns right toward Demyanitsa Hut. For Popovo Lake and Tevno Lake Shelter continue on the green marking (from here, follow green only).

Continue to Popovo Lake on the green marking. At the lake, pass along it on the right side.

About 300 m after Popovo Lake there is an important junction. For Tevno Lake Shelter, turn and follow the blue marking (from here, follow blue only).

The blue marking goes through the cirque of the Samodivski (Kralevi) Lakes and climbs the Left Kraledvorska Gate (“The Gates”), then descends to Tevno Lake Shelter.

ℹ️ If you plan to stay overnight, contact the shelter in advance.

Navigation

Key points

2

Bezbog Hut / upper station (start) – check water, battery and offline map.

3

Bezbog Lake – the first landmark; the trail passes next to it.

4

“Dushevadkata” – the steep section at the start; keep a steady pace.

5

Junction 1 (key point) – right goes to Bezbog/Polezhan; for Popovo Lake and Tevno go left.

6

Popovo Lake – pass along the right side; be careful on the rockier parts.

7

Junction after Popovo (key point) – for Tevno take the right branch on the trail with blue marking only.

8

Kraledvorska Gate (“The Gates”) – the toughest climb; after it comes the descent to Tevno.

9

Tevno Lake Shelter (finish) – arrival in the Belemeto cirque.

10

💧 Water: refill at Bezbog Hut; there is a water point shortly before Popovo Lake and a stream near the Samodivski Lakes. Drinking water is available at Tevno Ezero Shelter; treat water taken from streams.
