Route
Dzhangal Peak (2,730 m) is one of Pirin's most distinctive rocky summits. Its sharp granite profile rises between Popovo Lake and the Valyavishki cirques, giving the area a strongly alpine character.
The first part of the hike passes through the calmer lake country around Bezbog and Popovo Lake. Beyond that, the landscape becomes much wilder — moraines, rocky gullies, dwarf pine and steep granite slopes.
In clear weather, Dzhangal offers beautiful views toward Popovo Lake, the Valyavishki Lakes, Polezhan, Kamenitsa and the interior of Pirin.
The final approach is not a standard marked hiking route and requires strong navigation, experience on broken terrain and stable weather.
Access
From Bezbog Hut, walk beside Bezbozhko Lake on the combined green-and-yellow marking. After a few minutes, the steep climb above the lake begins, a section often known locally as Dushevadkata.
At the top of the climb, reach a junction. For Popovo Lake, continue on the green marking rather than toward Polezhan. A gentler section then leads gradually to Popovo Lake.
Beside Popovo Lake, continue along its right-hand shore in the direction of the route to Tevno Ezero. The unmarked approach to Dzhangal branches from this line. Beyond this point, do not expect continuous painted trail marking.
The route then crosses dwarf pine, moraines, rocky ground and steep gullies. Cairns can help, but do not rely on them alone — compare your position regularly with the GPX track and offline map.
The final approach to the ridge is steep and hands may be needed in places. Once high on the ridge, continue carefully across the rocky terrain toward Dzhangal Peak.
⚠️ This is a serious route and is not suitable for inexperienced hikers. In poor visibility, on wet rock or if you are unsure of the line, turn back in time. Descending the same steep approach can be harder than climbing it, so the return plan should be chosen in advance.
BGMountainGuide
In old maps and guidebooks, the names Dzhangal, Momini Dvori and Sivriya were shifted between neighboring peaks. For this reason, in older sources the same name does not always refer to the present-day summit in the same location.
Navigation
Bezbog Hut – start beside Bezbozhko Lake.
Steep opening climb above the lake – keep a steady pace.

Popovo Lake – the last calm place to rest and decide whether conditions are suitable to continue.
Turn toward Dzhangal – beyond this point there is no continuous painted trail marking.
Dwarf pine, moraines and rocky gullies – use the GPX track together with any cairns you find.
Approach to the ridge – the most serious part of the ascent.
Dzhangal Peak – final destination; plan your descent route in advance.
💧 Water: fill up at Bezbog Hut. There is drinking water before Popovo Lake, but after leaving the main route toward Dzhengal there is no dependable water source.
