Route
Yalovarnika Peak (2,763 m) is one of the high and imposing granite summits in the southern part of northern Pirin. The route also crosses Zabat Peak (2,688 m), turning the hike into a true journey along the Kamenitsa ridge.
Forest and the green slopes of the Begovitsa Valley dominate the beginning, but with height the scenery changes sharply toward moraines, rocky gullies and steep granite forms.
In clear weather, the upper section offers impressive views toward Kamenitsa, Kuklite, Zabat, Tevno Ezero and much of the southern Pirin ridges.
The upper route is unmarked and is suitable for experienced hikers with strong navigation skills and confidence on steep rocky terrain.
Access
From Begovitsa Hut, start along the blue and yellow trail markings. After the routes split, continue along the yellow marking towards Pirin Hut. Follow it through the area of Kuklensko Lake to the pass between Kuklite and Zabat. At the pass, leave the colored marking and turn left towards Zabat, following the unmarked path and stone cairns. After reaching Zabat, continue with a steep descent towards the saddle between Zabat and Yalovarnika. From the saddle, begin the steep ascent over the rocky slope towards Yalovarnika. In some places the terrain requires the use of your hands for balance. After the lower summit point, continue towards the main summit of Yalovarnika at 2763 m. The approximate time from Begovitsa Hut to the summit is around 3:50 h one way. Beyond the pass there is no standard colored trail marking, and the GPX track should be used as an aid for navigation rather than as a substitute for assessing the terrain, visibility and current conditions.

The name Yalovarnika is linked to the traditional pastoral use of its southern slopes. Barren livestock — animals that did not produce offspring — were grazed there. The present name of the peak gradually became established from this local use.
