Description

Todorka Peak (2,746 m) is one of the most recognisable summits in Pirin, rising directly above Bansko and the Banderitsa Valley. Its characteristic ridge has three distinct high points, giving the massif its familiar profile.

The hike from Vihren Hut begins in the lake landscape of the Banderitsa cirque and gradually climbs toward the open Todorka ridge. With height, the dwarf pine is left behind and the terrain becomes increasingly rocky and panoramic.

In clear weather, the upper part of the route offers impressive views toward Vihren, Kutelo, the Banderitsa Lakes, the Vasilashki Lakes and the interior of Pirin.

The route is physically demanding and its upper section is fully exposed to wind and changing weather, but in stable summer conditions it does not involve technical climbing.

Access

How to get there

From Vihren Hut, follow the combined red-and-green marking through the Banderitsa cirque. Stay on the main trail to Zhabeshkoto Lake.

At Zhabeshkoto Lake, the red marking continues toward Banderishka Porta. For Todorka, remain on the green marking and begin the climb toward Todorina Porta.

The trail climbs in switchbacks and gradually reaches more open terrain. At Todorina Porta, the green marking continues downhill toward the Todorini Lakes and Demyanitsa Hut. For Todorka Peak, leave the marked trail onto the ridge and follow the established line and stone cairns.

Continue along the rocky ridge toward Malka Todorka and Sredna Todorka, then on to the main summit.

⚠️ Beyond Todorina Porta, do not expect continuous painted trail marking. In fog, low cloud or strong wind, use the GPX track and stay with the ridge line.

Peak Legend

One old Pirin legend connects Todorka with the brave Theodora, defender of the Sitan fortress, who chose death over captivity. In other versions, folk tradition also links Todorka with the Todorini Ochi lakes, whose waters are described as the tears of the tragic heroine. This is a folk legend, not a proven historical event.
