Route
Polezhan Peak (2,851 m) is the highest granite summit in Pirin and one of the mountain's finest viewpoints. Malak Polezhan (2,822 m) lies immediately beside it, making the two peaks easy to combine in one high-mountain hike.
The area is characterised by vast fields of broken granite slabs that give the ridge a particularly rugged appearance. Some of Pirin's highest lakes also lie nearby.
In clear weather, Polezhan opens a broad panorama toward Dzhangal, Gazey, Bezbog, Kamenitsa, Vihren and many of the lake cirques of northern Pirin.
The route is sustained and almost entirely exposed. The rocky terrain calls for solid footwear and a steady pace, especially on the descent.
Access
Start from Bezbog Hut and pass along Bezbog Lake. At the beginning, follow the marked trail (green–yellow) in the direction of Popovo Lake.
Continue uphill on the same marking to Bezbog Pass. This is a key point.
After the pass, the main marked trail continues straight/left toward Popovo Lake. For Polezhan, take the branch to the right toward Polezhan. After this junction the marking is weaker or may be missing, so stay on the clearly visible path and avoid cutting across the terrain.
The trail continues uphill over rockier ground. Bezbog Peak stays on your right (it is clearly visible), and you continue toward Polezhan Peak.
After Polezhan you can make a short extension to Malk Polezhan if you want to include it. Return the same way back to Bezbog Hut.

Until 1942, Polezhan was known as Mangar Tepe. “Mangar” is the name of an old copper coin, and the name is associated with the characteristic clatter of the stone slabs under hikers’ feet — as if coins were rattling.
