Description

This is a calmer, greener Pirin hike that feels very different from the rugged marble ridges of the northern part of the mountain.

Much of the day passes through forest, river valleys and open meadows. There are no long technical sections, and the landscape changes gradually and pleasantly.

Spano Pole Shelter stands in a broad open area where several popular Pirin routes meet, making this hike suitable both as a destination in itself and as part of a longer traverse.

Access

How to get there

From Begovitsa Hut, take the hiking route toward Spano Pole Shelter. The opening section follows a forest road, and before long the route crosses the Begovitsa River.

Continue through the forest toward the Banski Grob area and the Mozgovitsa Valley. The gradient here is generally gentle and allows a steady pace.

Higher up, the forest gradually thins and the route enters more open ground. At junctions, do not choose a direction only because one path looks more heavily used — the area is also used by shepherds.

Follow the hiking signs on the ground together with the GPX track to Spano Pole Shelter. After rain, some forest sections can be muddy and slippery.
