Route
The hike between Begovitsa Hut and Pirin Hut can be done by two different summer variants, which is part of what makes the route interesting — one stays lower and greener, while the other climbs higher into more open Pirin terrain.
The classic option is calmer and passes through forest and valley sections. The higher option through the Kuklite area offers wider views, rockier terrain and a stronger high-mountain feel.
Both variants finish at Pirin Hut, set in a quiet southern part of the mountain far from the busier routes around Vihren and Bezbog.
It is a rewarding hike for people who want to see the wilder side of southern Pirin, but the preferred variant should be chosen in advance.
Access
🟤 Option 1 – Classic
From Begovitsa Hut, follow the brown markings toward Pirin Hut. The route passes mainly through forested terrain with gentle ascents and descents. Follow the main trail through the Solishteto area and the Kelyova River valley. Navigation is easy for almost the entire hike, and at a normal pace Pirin Hut is reached in about 5 hours.
🟡 Option 2 – Via Begovishko Lake and Kuklite
The route starts from Begovitsa Hut on the shared blue-yellow markings. After the junction, the blue markings branch away, while the route toward Pirin Hut continues only on the yellow markings. The trail passes Begovishko Lake, after which a steeper climb begins toward the saddle between Zabat Peak and Kuklite. ⚠️ This is the highest and most exposed part of the route. In fog, strong wind or thunderstorms, it is advisable to turn back. After the saddle, a long descent begins toward the Bashmandra area and Pirin Hut; carefully follow the yellow markings and stone cairns.
