Yonchevo Lake is a picturesque high-mountain lake in the Malyovitsa section of Rila, situated below Popova Kapa Peak.
It is a popular destination for a day hike in its own right and also serves as a natural intermediate point on the longer route toward Strashnoto Lake.
Access
START: The most popular approach begins from the Malyovitsa resort and training-centre area.
MARKINGS: Follow the green hiking markings toward Yonchevo Lake.
TERRAIN: The initial section climbs more steeply through forest before gradually emerging into more open mountain terrain.
TIME: At a normal hiking pace, reaching the lake usually takes approximately 1.5–2 hours depending on the exact starting point and conditions.
CONTINUING: From the lake, the blue-marked trail continues toward Strashnoto Lake.
WINTER: Do not use summer timings and route descriptions as a guide when snow is present.

It is named after Samokov painter Hristo Yonchev-Kriskarets, known for his landscapes of Rila.
A marked high-mountain route toward Strashnoto Lake continues from Yonchevo.
